Around the World

A project with Catchgate Primary School, County Durham

Learning Gallery Exhibition

Running until mid-September

Throughout 2018, every pupil at Catchgate Primary School created an artwork in glass inspired by worldwide cultures. Using traditional art and design styles from eight different countries for inspiration, the older children designed and made their own fused glass panels. The children’s artwork really captured the culture of the countries through the imaginative use of pattern and colour and references to geographical points of interest, flora and fauna. Children worked in small groups with artist Zoe Garner to learn about the glass fusing technique. They used colours glass grains and rods to bring their design to life, resulting in circular panels, one for each country.

The younger children took part in glass painting workshops creating artwork inspired by international literature.

Participation in this project has earned each of the pupils their Arts Award Discover, the first of five levels of nationally accredited qualification in art.
