Join artist-photographer duo John Kippin & Nicola Neate, Lecturer, Curating Contemporary Art at Newcastle University and former Director of NGCA Dr Alistair Robinson and photography historian, curator, writer and University of Sunderland Arts Team Leader Dr Carol McKay to celebrate the launch of John Kippin & Nicola Neate’s new book ‘IN this DAY and AGE – The Outer Hebrides’ published by Kerber.

The talk will expand on the four-year project which has seen Kippin & Neate living in North Uist, one of a remote group of six islands that form part of the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.

Living in North Uist has allowed Kippin & Neate to closely research and document – through photography – what it means to be part of island life, how this is changing, and the ecological impact of increasing tourism, migration and militarism, alongside reflecting upon the nature of traditional island narratives and their representation.

A selection of photographic prints from ‘IN this DAY and AGE’ are currently on display within the exhibition ‘Island’ at NGCA.

This project is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England in addition to funding from Leverhulme Trust together with support from Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre in North Uist.
