Football Art Prize

10am-4pm, Special Exhibitions Gallery
Free/No booking required

To coincide with the 2022 FIFA World Cup, The Football Art Prize celebrates arguably the world’s most popular sport.

Artists from around the world were invited to submit their work to be included in the exhibition. A wide selection ranging from painting, photography, film and collage, represents the spectrum of experiences of the beautiful game.

From the riches and idolatry of the upper echelons of the sport, to the muddy grit of grassroots clubs, the works to be found at The Football Art Prize show how football has come to reflect the entirety of the human experience. Visual tales of glory and defeat live alongside deeply personal pieces and recognisable scenes of wintery night matches and foggy fields.

Over 60 artworks by 50 artists were selected, with three artists being awarded cash prizes, including a top prize of £5,000. Additionally, visitors to the exhibition can vote for an ‘Audience Choice’ award winner. This touring exhibition launched at Touchstones Rochdale in partnership with Parker Harris and was created with generous support from Arts Council England.

Please note there is currently no lift access to upper galleries as the passenger lift requires significant repair. Please consider this when planning your visit. Mechanical parts are on order and we hope to have the lift repaired as soon as possible and apologise for the inconvenience caused to our visitors. If you’d like to discuss your access needs please contact the Museum.
