Guardians of the Planet
Until January 2022
This exhibition by artists, mother and daughter, Barbara and Catherine Reed draws on their life in Africa. The exhibition focuses on the first peoples, the San, and their relationship with the planet. Living in total harmony with nature for thousands of years the San are themselves are now under threat of extinction.
Featuring textiles, oil paintings and mixed media artworks the exhibition explores the San’s relationship with nature and links this with human actions today including the devastating effects on our planet from pollution, mining, the burning of fossil fuels and climate change.
Focusing specifically on Africa the exhibition addresses issues that link us all – the consequences of our own actions which impact not only ourselves but on the global population and future generations. The artists challenge the viewer to question who needs to be the modern Guardians of the Planet.
