Saturday 9 September, 10:30am
Free, places are limited and must be pre-booked
Join a free Vintage Bus Tour with the North-East Bus Preservation Trust, starting at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens and visiting Hylton Castle, Washington F Pit Museum, Bowes Railway Museum and Ryhope Engines Museum.
This Vintage Bus tour will explore the industrial and built heritage of a variety of visitor attractions in Washington and Sunderland, with expert guided tours led by volunteers at each location. This year includes a new Coal Face exhibition at Washington F Pit Museum supported by Redhills, The Cultural Spring and UCL, featuring tin-type portraits of local ex-miners. There is also the opportunity to meet local author Glenda Young at Ryhope Engines Museum tea rooms to have your books signed. Tour participants can also get a £1 discount off book sales on the day.
Don’t miss the chance to pop in to see the new exhibition Elmer and Friends, the Colourful World of David McKee at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens before the bus leaves at 10.30am.
Due to the age and type of bus the tour is not accessible to wheelchair users or persons with limited mobility. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by adults. The tour is not suitable for under 5s.
Places are limited and must be pre-booked.
