Museum Shop Sunday

We’ll be joining over 1,000 cultural organisations worldwide on Sunday 1 December by putting cultural shops in the spotlight.

To mark the occasion, we’re offering everyone who spends over £10 in our Shop a FREE National Glass Centre mug that day!

In celebration of our products from local designers and makers, we have several special guests on the day too!

  • Brian Jones of Wearside Glass will be demonstrating how he uses flameworked techniques to makes the super cute glass animals that we sell in our Shop. (Demos at 11am & 15.45pm)
  • Booking Signing (2-3pm) – Glenda Young, local author of historical fiction such as Belle of The Back Streets and The Tuppenny child, will be joining us to talk about her books as well as signing them. We will also have first copies of her new book Pearl of Pit Lane available in store.

Plus FREE Christmas Gift wrapping available all day!

Stocking a range of design-led gifts from toys and books to hand-crafted jewellery and homewares from local makers, there’s something for everyone and a great place to pick up a gift perfect for the festive period!

Also, if you’re looking for an extra special gift, our Christmas selling exhibition, Gifted 19 offers an opportunity to buy unique, high quality, hand-made gifts made in glass and ceramics. The artists represented are working at various career stages and while some are local, others are sending their work from as far afield as Denmark.

So get ahead of the game with your Christmas Shopping and join us in celebrating your local cultural shop here in Sunderland this 1 December.
