Pyrex 100
Saturday 24 September 2022 to Saturday 28 January 2023
10am-4pm, Art Gallery
Free/No booking required
Our Pyrex 100 display celebrates the centenary by showcasing Sunderland made Pyrex from the 1920s to the last piece made in 2007. The whole range of production will be on show from domestic ware, caterware, promotional items to industrial and scientific ware. Experimental pieces will be included and ‘one off’ pieces will be highlighted.
A specially commissioned short film will be screened that looks at the working lives of factory workers. Visitors can discover the story of Pyrex made in Sunderland and take pride in a workforce that once supplied all the Pyrex sold across the British Commonwealth, except Canada.
Pyrex100 is generously supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund, administered by the Museums Association on behalf of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
