Story Explorers

Stories for children aged 6 and under / Online

Sunderland Music Hub, Sunderland Libraries and Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens are delighted to share with you their joint project, Story Explorers!

Story Explorers is a project for children aged 6 and under, created during lockdown when children, their families and carers are unable to visit their favourite Sunderland venues.

Story Explorers is a partnership project from Sunderland Music Hub, Sunderland Culture and Sunderland Libraries Services. It brings together storytelling and singalongs with some of the wonderful collections at Sunderland Libraries Services and Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens.

This project has been supported using public funding from Sunderland Music Hub through Department for Education and Arts Council England, Sunderland City Council and Sunderland Libraries Services and Sunderland Culture through Arts Council England.

Story Explorers: Dinosaur Roar

Join us for our first Story Explorers video, where we read Dinosaur Roar by Henrietta Stickland and Paul Stickland and go on a musical adventure around Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens!

Story Explorers: Wow said the Owl

For our second video, we’re reading Wow said the Owl by Tim Hopgood – the story of a curious little owl who decides to stay awake all day, instead of all night, and discovers a world bursting with colour. Then join us for a musical adventure around Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens as we explore all the colours we can kind there!

Story Explorers: The Jar of Happiness

For our third story in the series, we’re reading The Jar of Happiness by Ailsa Burrows – the story of Meg and her recipe for happiness. Collecting all the necessary ingredients in a jar, Meg uses her recipe  to cheer up her friends and family when they’re feeling low. But what happens when her special jar mysteriously disappears?

Supporting Children’s Mental Health Week from 1 – 7 February 2021, this storytelling, exploring and music session will help you discover simple ways for your family and carers to share happiness and build resilience. Plus, once you’ve watched the video below, download our fun activity to go with it!
