Sunderland Film Club presents… Stories We Tell
Thursday 29th February, 7pm, Tickets £5
Join us at Arts Centre Washington this February for a screening of Sarah Polley’s singular portrait of a family dealing with a legacy of secrets, lies and the elusive nature of truth itself – Stories We Tell.
When Sarah’s mother – free-spirited actress Diana Polley – passed away in 1990, she left a series of unanswered questions in her wake. Torn between desire and expectation, an affair sends shockwaves through a complex network of family, friends and strangers for years to come.
Through interviews with family members and friends, archive footage and staged Super-8 reconstructions, Polley’s riveting investigation into her parent’s lives becomes an exploration of the role of memory, questioning its ownership and also the veracity of recollection. Can we ever uncover every facet of those closest to us and, ultimately, do we want to?
Sunderland Film Club, Wearside’s documentary-focused community cinema, hosts monthly screenings, talks and workshops at Arts Centre Washington.
Sunderland Film Club is supported by Film Hub North with National Lottery funding on behalf of the BFI Film Audience Network.
