Marty Longstaff, aka The Lake Poets presents an evening with some very special young guests from Sunderland’s Young Musicians Project as well as playing a headline set of his own.
The Lake Poets needs no introduction in Sunderland. A brilliant singer-songwriter, deeply rooted in his hometown but inspired by international greats such as Elvis Perkins, Carole King, John Martyn and Neil Young he has achieved great acclaim for his brilliant songs and inspiring, rousing performances, including on the opening night of The Fire Station. Also a great teacher and inspiration to young musicians, Marty also works regularly for Sunderland’s brilliant artist development scheme, Young Musicians Project.
Young Musicians Project supports young people to come together and start playing and writing music, whatever their ability or experience. Led by professional musicians, the group also creates opportunities for participants to start gigging, recording and producing their work and take their first steps to becoming independent artists. Young Musicians Project is managed by We Make Culture CIC led by the inimitable powerhouse that is Laura Brewis.
The first part of this very special evening of homegrown talent will be a showcase of rising stars from the Young Musicians Project. Izzy Price, Lottie Willis, Isabel Maria & Lily Mac – all hotly tipped breakthrough artists, followed by a headline set from Marty himself. The evening will close with an after-party and DJ set.
