Unlock: Tax And Accounting For Self-employed Creative Practitioners

As part of our Unlock: Skills Development Series, this workshop led by Chartered Accountant Pete O’Hara offers an in-depth look at the tax and accounting implications for self-employed artists, practitioners and other freelancers working in the cultural sector. It covers which taxes might affect you, how to stay on the right side of HMRC, what you can (and can’t) claim as business expenditure on your tax return, as well as advice on how to keep your books and records.
The workshop will be relaxed and informal and will include the opportunity to ask Pete any specific questions you might have, as well as any arising from his presentation.
This workshop is for self-employed creative practitioners and freelancers operating in the cultural and heritage sectors, who are based in, work or study in Sunderland.

About the workshop leader:
Pete is a fully-qualified Chartered Accountant, who has specialised in the arts and cultural sector for the past 30 years. He was previous Head of Finance at Northern Arts (now Arts Council England North East) and has been a Trustee of Dance City and Tyneside Cinema.
He currently works with a wide range of cultural sector organisations and artists, providing business advice, training, mentoring and support as well as more traditional accountancy services from book-keeping through to year end accounts.
