The Ballad of the Crocodile and the Underpass – Registration of Interest

Our new project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, will develop “radio ballad” style podcasts, oral histories, songs and music, unique photographic collages/banners, and a publication to explore life in Washington New Town from 1964 to the present. We’d love to have you involved: register your interest here to receive updates about relevant workshops, activities and events.

This short podcast was put together by the brilliant Grace Stubbings to demonstrate the kind of stories and sounds we’re aiming to get out to the public over the course of our new project, The Ballad of the Crocodile and the Underpass. We’ll be working with the public to record their stories, create podcasts and songs, and turn their old and new photographs into stunning art. We’re commemorating 60 years since Washington New Town began and want to understand more of what it was like to be around the place at that time.

This project is being developed by Washington Heritage Partnership, Sunderland Culture, Baseline Shift and We Make Culture, the support of the University of Sunderland and The National Heritage Lottery Fund
