Getting Here

By bus, Metro or train

Numerous buses stop along Fawcett Street, Borough Road, Burdon Road and John Street in Sunderland City Centre. Each one of these locations are within a two-minute walk from us. These include Stagecoach buses 3, 4, 23, E1, E6 and Go North East 33, 35, 36. 

The nearest Tyne & Wear Metro station is Sunderland. The station also operates trains to Newcastle and Middleborough. We are just a two-minute walk from here. 

By car

A1: 

Take the exit at Junction 62 on the A1 

Follow A690 to Sunderland 

Then A1231 for Hendon and head onto Burdon Road 

 

A19: 

Take exit for A183 on A19 southbound 

Take exit for A690 on A19 northbound 

Then A1231 for Hendon and head onto Burdon Road 

Parking and drop off

Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens is on the edge of Mowbray Park in Sunderland City Centre. We don’t have our own car park, however there are several car parks close by.  

There are two dedicated blue badge parking bays on Frederick Street which is 300m from the Museum entrance. 

Parking near our venue

The nearest taxi rank is just across the road from Sunderland Station. 

Taxis, coaches and minibuses may use the bus stop at the Museum entrance on Burdon Road for dropping off and picking up passengers.

By bike

There are cycle routes across Sunderland. To plan your route to Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens by bike, you can use either Google Maps or resources on Go Smarter Go Active.
