Event description

Gain a fascinating insight into the creative process behind the Coal Face exhibition through two Q&A panels with its lead artists.

In ‘Writing the Coal Face’, Dr Louise Powell discusses the methods and inspirations behind her evocative verbatim poetry with writer, PhD researcher and miner’s daughter Kathy Hoyle.

The Q&A panel is suitable for audiences with all levels of interest in photography and creative writing.

Also taking place for our Coal Face Study Day is our first session, ‘Photographing the Coal Face’. In the session, see Andy Martin talk to painter, curator and lecturer Dr Narbi Price about the film and wet collodion or ‘tintype’ processes behind his powerful photography. Please note if you would like to attend both Q&A panels then separate tickets are required for each session.
