Event description

Take part in a creative, after-hours carousel of activities in a relaxed and welcoming space at the National Glass Centre. Come and try out some new things and meet some new people.

What is Autonomy?

Autonomy is a new, creative programme for autistic individuals living in Sunderland. It has been set up to help autistic young people (16-25) to socially and creatively connect with other autistic young adults and their carers. We believe that autistic adults should have the freedom and ability to enjoy creative and cultural opportunities, whilst being respected as individuals with unique needs and preferences.

What does Autonomy offer?

  • Trained SEND staff, ensuring individual needs will be respected and accommodated wherever possible
  • An opportunity for autistic adults (16-25) and their parents/carers to connect and socialise with others
  • This is an after-hours event. The building will be closed to the general public for additional comfort
  • Free, creative activities delivered by professional artists to try including visual arts, drumming and digital animation
  • Low participant numbers to reduce noise and sensory distraction
  • Free pizza and refreshments
  • Quiet area – designated spaces for individuals who need to take a break
  • Wheelchair accessible venue with social story and video tours available
