Event description

A special screening of ‘In the Veins’, a new short film that resonates through time, using over a century of archive footage to shine a light onto the face of the mining heritage of Yorkshire and the North East of England.

This film will be paired with a 1986 Tyne Tees Television documentary ‘Trouble and Strife’ that follows two groups of County Durham miners’ wives who, one year on from the 1984-85 Miners’ Strike are continuing the fight to save coal mining in the region.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with ‘Women Against Pit Closures’ campaigner Heather Wood plus representatives from the North East Film Archive and Teesside University.

Art Centre Washington’s film programme is supported by Film Hub North with National Lottery funding on behalf of the BFI Film Audience Network. Heritage Reels is supported by Yorkshire and North East Film Archives.
