Event description
Join us at Port Independent this October for a screening of Rose Glass’s startling divine vision – Saint Maud.
Live-in nurse Maud arrives at the home of Amanda, a former famous dancer. Amanda is intrigued by this religious young woman, who is tormented by a secret past and by messages she believes are from God. As Maud’s grip on reality slides out of control, she embarks on a mission to save Amanda’s soul.
One of the most original British horror films in a decade, Glass’s debut combines religious fervor and psychological frailty in the bleak English seaside to explore repression, desperation and loneliness.
This screening is part of This Woman’s Work – a new, monthly programme of screenings highlighting world cinema’s greatest female filmmakers.
As part of our season focusing on Rose Glass, we will also be screening Love Lies Bleeding.
Sunderland Film Club is supported by Film Hub North, with National Lottery funding on behalf of the BFI Film Audience Network, and Cinema for All’s Glow Scheme. The programme is funded by the BFI, awarding funds from the National Lottery.
