Event description
Join us at Port Independent this August for a screening of Lynne Ramsey’s dreamlike rave-era parable – Morvern Callar.
Morvern Callar wakes up on Christmas morning to find her boyfriend has took his own life. Instead of reporting his death, Morvern empties his bank account and sends his novel to a publisher under her own name. Using the cash, she and her friend Lanna trade Oban for Almeria and embark on a hedonistic and hallucinatory getaway to Southern Spain.
An adaption of Alan Warner’s cult novel of the same name, Ramsey’s second film transposes a feminist fairy tale onto the 18-30’s package holiday to tell a story of self-reinvention, desire and transformation.
This screening is part of This Woman’s Work – a new, monthly programme of screenings highlighting world cinema’s greatest female filmmakers.
